Karoline Hvidtfeldt (b. 1997) is a Danish visual artist based on a farm in Lolland, Denmark, where she works from a painting studio at home. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Funen Art Academy (2023) and a Master of Fine Arts from the Akademie der Bildenden Künste Wien (2026). Her practice centres on figurative painting that sometimes borders on abstraction. Rather than working from finished sketches or fully formed ideas, she builds each composition around a single subject (a person, an object or a room) using references from books, paintings or photographs she comes across. Through varied materials and techniques she creates an interplay between chance and intention, exploring how colours and motifs can be distorted so that they question the emotions they evoke. Hvidtfeldt seeks to hold together the calm and familiar with awkwardness and alienation, repeating colours and recurring motifs to dwell on what already exists and allow it to remain in the process of becoming. By presenting light colours in ways that contradict their usual reading, or bodies in resting yet strained poses, she creates contradictions that invite the viewer to ask questions rather than find answers. For her, the visible itself becomes the catalyst for interpretation.
